Learning spanish
like any other language can improve your quality of life. The more you
learn the more you can mix with locals and learn about their cultures
and ways of life. When you learn another language you are given an insight
into the way local people to that country think as our language has
a surprisingly large control over the way we approach communicating
with each other. The english for example are often regarded as very
polite, this level of politness is not so much present amoungst most
spanish speaking communities. The people may well still come across
and friendly decent people. However the way they use their words of
please (por favor) and thank you (gracias) can be very different.
Language learning
is as common amoungst adult education as it is of children. Children
are often required to learn another language at school and spanish may
be one of those languages. Lanuages
are used in three ways by us. We speak, listen and write, any student
learning spanish for the first time will be pleased to hear that it
is a language that is spelt the same as it is pronounced. So unlike
our english language which has many words with silent letters, spanish
uses all its letters almost all of the time.
The approaches to
learning spanish like any language are varied. Old fashioned approaches
include language courses on CD, DVD or computer. Often these will us
a repetitive drilling method to make students repeat words over and
over again. Although this is effective, some argue this isn't the best
method of teaching. Others argue that conversation is a good way to
learn and practice using the language, the more practice you get the
fast you will become when using verbs etc. However you can't talk too
much if your vocabulary is very small. Using language during activities
has proven to be a very successful way to learn language that was existing,
plus a way to make students think and want to learn new language. Activities
such as games, group activities, story writing etc are all useful.
